Not to be an alarmist, but I am concerned about all the recent changes on LJ - in particular the most recent - the buyout of LJ by a Russian company.  And yes, I am too damned tired and otherwise occupied to link to all the various places this is being disseminated - you'll have to do your own legwork on this one if you aren't already in the loop.

Basically, I'm just wondering if anyone else has the desire to keep in contact with friends they've made exclusively through LJ, and if there are other blogspaces you're already in that you would migrate to if LJ goes wacked.

First person who says "MySpace!!!!111!!!" will get kicked in the teeth.
Okay, so not really.  You can say it if you want.
I just may think less of you as a person, but you shouldn't take that, you know, personally or anything.

Thoughts, comments, suggestions?

I honestly don't know. I just made a post about this myself. I think in many ways this is a good move for LJ -- not having 6A at the reins will make a huge difference -- but I'm like you... I'm iffy about what this latest thing will/might/could/possibly mean. Not making any decisions on it until I see more, though.

I've had a Myspace acct for a year or so now, but I will never use it for real bloggging/contacts. Whatever you end up migrating to, if you do, I'll keep in touch, and vice versa hopefully. :)

Quite frankly, this may be the kick in the ass I need to just go ahead and get a domain name and use Wordpress for my blogging on there...

I like blogspot.com

My sister in law just moved her account there, and though it lacks the ease of the friends button, it's fairly easy to navigate, and feels a lot like livejounal. (which is why I've always liked livejournal) Anyhow, check it out. Might be a good option.

That's my biggest issue - it's the Friends List that's kept me with this service for as long as I've been here. I don't often update when things get busy, but I read about everyone else every single day. I wouldn't be as inclined to do that if I had to visit a bajillion different sites just to do that. Harumph.

Oh, don't I know... I haven't really played with blogspot much, maybe I'm missing something? I'll ask Andrea if there are any tips and report back. (I'm not super good with these things... it took me forever to learn all the stuff with livejournal!)

Why would LJ go wacked? If anything it'll likely be more stable (from a our-uninformed-changes-let-us-show-you-them standpoint) and less bullshitty than it was under 6A.

Hey, I'll be very happy to be wrong - I like it here and really don't want to go anywhere else. This Wired article just gave me the heebie-jeebies.

what with a user based advisory board setup i don't expect any impending evilization.

but if it does i suspect i will get better at using RSS and probably just setup a rss feed of the various scattered to the wind friends i would have,

meanwhile i would probably setup a Joomla or Sitebuilder based blog at my ISP.
