Sep. 23rd, 2009 01:56 pmAustin's home. He was even bright-eyed and alert when I came to get him - then his day got really ruined. The vet tech gave me some paid meds for him - they think it's possible, because of what they saw on the x-rays, that he may have some hip pain. So the tech gave me some tramadol to give to him by mouth and offered to show me how to administer it - but rather than taking him out of his carrier, she tried to give it to him while his was inside. It's liquid and it's administered by mouth - and the object is to get it as far back into the throat as possible. Which is hard to do with a cat that is still inside the carrier. Most of it ended up right in his mouth (and on his face), and it's apparently extremely bad-tasting - because yeah, he spent the next ten minutes foaming at the mouth like a root beer float. He got very quiet after that, and even though the tech said it wasn't a tranq but more like tylenol for cats, it's still apparently something that makes him sleepy. He's been home for 20 minutes now - and hasn't left the cat carrier, even though the door is wide open. And if that's where he feels comfortable right now, I'm not going to disturb him.
Am going to take short nap, then head out for closing shift. Will be home very late tonight and up very early tomorrow - Thursday will be interesting on two hours sleep. And so it goes.
Again, thank you.
Thank you all so much.
Oh, and if anyone pets Austin tonight - they gave him a hydrating shot, so the hump on his back - is fluids, and is temporary. So beware the Hunchback of Haltom City. Or something.
