May. 25th, 2009 10:29 pmWent to a BBQ tonight that was apparently held in my honor, what with the leaving town and all that. It's a surprisingly squooshy feeling to have that kind of thing stealthed on you.
Got to see that really lovely handful of arts & tech folk that I've worked with over the last few years, and have some great conversations about what everyone's been doing with the last year, and what's in the works for the future. It was heart-warming and inspiring.
I find that I keep smiling without willing it. This to me is the ultimate in happiness.
I don't believe in saying goodbye, so I told everyone, "see you later."
I can say it.
I do have roots here.
I need to go now - but I will be back to visit.
This is such a different feeling than I had when I left Washington.
That had a feeling of finality that this doesn't.
I really appreciate this feeling of fluidity in a very real way.
This is why I love the theatre, and the arts as a whole, so much. The sense of community. I think it's something that people find in their own way, based on their interests. I can't find it in myself to manufacture interest in just any group of people; hence my dislike for generalized parties or social activities centered only around drinking or what have you. I need to be around people with vision. Whether it's specific areas of the arts or more geektastic things that I don't necessarily understand as well but can get just enough to be excited by the excitement of others purely on their excitement in it -
I need to be around the people who have tiny universes in their own minds.
My people are the ones who never stop exploring.
I am happy tonight.
I am happy.
Yes. :)
