I just took two days off work to try to magically heal myself so that I could make the drive to Dallas for the group interviews.

I still pretty much feel like crap.  Maybe not quite as bad as yesterday, but still not great.

I call the person I've been in contact with by e-mail to explain the situation and ask (read: semi-beg) if there's some kind of alternate interview process.  I tell her that I want very much to be considered, but that a 20-hr. round trip drive just isn't something I'm up to right now (to myself for fuck's sake, lady - seriously?).  I point out that I've got a strong resume and recommendations and that I'm a very solid candidate and -

I get a few minutes worth of "this is the process we have in place" and "we just don't have the bandwidth {bandwidth?!?!  the fuck?) to conduct interviews outside this process" and "there are 190 positions to fill and this process is in place to insure that we are fair to all our applicants" and "If there are any opening left on Monday I'll call you."

Yeah.

Yeah.

So - if it were you, would you -

a) Spend all day in bed (like the last two days, so no change there), get up at 7pm and drive to Dallas, and go to the interview?  Hopefully without shambling through it like a zombie and/or hacking up a lung.

b) Just say the hell with it and hope that the magical universe will see that there's a position open for you on Monday, and spend the weekend in bed?

I'm going back to bed right now.  Tell me what you'd do and I'll check your answers when I get up again.

Although I would prefer it otherwise, I'd say stay put. Joke 'em if they can't take a fuck.

I'd say to stay put and not make the trip. With the luck you are having this week, you'd get all the way there to find it canceled due to swine flu.

Seriously, your health is more important that that. Thank them for their time, express hopes of working with them in the future, then go back to bed and concentrate on getting healthy.

Sucky though it may appear to be as options go, I'd say stay put. The problem is that making a 10 hour drive while feeling like ass and then going through the interview process isn't going to show you at your best; if the company in question isn't willing to be flexible then fuck 'em.

You've got a good enough resume that they're interested - if they've any sense and think you're a good fit to the positions they have, they'll work around what is a pretty minor issue and find another way of conducting the interview or just postpone the face-to-face until it's feasible.

Doesn't matter how awesome the job is if you're dead.

I was going to say something to this effect. Thank you.
