For the last two weeks, I was on a teaching gig that was really more an assistant teaching thing than anything.  It was cool - I learned a lot from the people it really belonged to - but I was more just a very small cog in their machine.

Starting Monday, I'm doing what I do best again.

That is, me running the show, with one or more helpful minions scurrying about doing my bidding.

Moo-ha-ha-ha.

Want to hear the most disturbing part?

I'm sitting here right now, working on an adaptation of an existing children's play, based on a lovely classic children's book (The BFG, by Roald Dahl).  Butchering the poor thing to get it down to a teensy bit of its original length, so that it's a manageable size to rehearse and mount - in two weeks time.  With an as yet unknown number of children; probably 15 or so.  Hopefully not more.  Hum.

This would be one of the times that I wouldn't have it any other way.

There is actually a children's script of the BFG already adapted for the stage. Maybe you could look at it for some ideas if you need it to be even shorter... if not, your organization may want to be sure you're not going to get in trouble for doing that... I know that ALT will be putting that show (the paid for script) up in October.

I already have it - and that's the adaptation I'm adapting. ALT is where I got the script.

And the kids for this camp are only having a short showcase performance for just their parents, not the public - so I'm not going to concern myself about the whole legality issue.

Your points are valid - I just figure that this is so far below the radar that it's insignificant. And part of the reason I decided that a micro BFG would be an interesting thing to do was because I wanted to introduce it to the kids, have them have some fun with it, then let the parents know about the upcoming ALT production so that perhaps they could take the kids to see that and they could compare/contrast their own ideas against the other show. On a very basic level, anyway.
