I am trying to find something that will approximate a 1930's era mailman's bag.  They looked like this:



I've found a couple of these - actual vintage pieces - on Ebay.  Problem is, I'm very likely going to get outbid - the price may go out of my range ( approx. $150 ceiling) and/or because I'll be on FUCKING DIAL-UP at work today AND maybe, you know, actually WORKING, I won't be able to babysit the one auction that's ending in a couple hours.  There's another one on auction ending in a couple days, but same problems may apply - it'd be nice if I could just BUY one.  Grrrr.

Does anyone out there know of a good leatherworking vendor that makes something like this?  It's a very basic construction -

• single flap front
• no pockets
  
• no interior lining
  
• one buckle closure at center of flap
  
• measuring roughly 21" long x 16" wide x 7" deep - though the size doesn't have to be exact; it just needs to be fairly large and roomy
• no other handles besides the main shoulder strap

If anyone has any ideas of where I might find something like this for around $150, puhLEEZE let me know.  I've been googling my brains out and haven't hit paydirt yet.

Have you tried army surplus shops online? They will very most likely have something like that.

They're good for things made out of canvas - not so much with the leather. Argh.

Not sure on the style, but I know how to make it look aged! Oil and red dirt, an idea I had that worked well when helping out third year film students on a shoot. Sorry if this is not helpful to you :)
