At this point I must pipe up with a dissenting voice - I thought the finale worked very well for the story they told. It completed the season-long story arc, but left a few things dangling for future storylines. And it didn't do the usual "let's make it a double length episode and pad it out with needlessly extended scenes" (including one in particular I won't name due to its spoilery goodness) thing that american network tv folks seem so enamored of.

And, this might just be me, it was nice to see a resolution to a big problem that didn't boil down to "Right, lets just punch a certain someone until they die and magically that'll fix everything else". For a show that's got so many nods to superhero comics, that particular aspect was refreshing.

I dunno, my flatmate got me into the new series at the same time as we started on Babylon 5 and his explanation was "Babylon 5 is a long, rewarding trek. Doctor Who is nice easy fluff entertainent with some decent lines and a few good ideas.".

(Note: I wasn't a Doctor Who fan before the new stuff, and I wouldn't really say I am now. It's an enjoyable bubblegum show, but not exactly indispensable viewing...)

I keep watching it and I'm not sure why. It's unbelievably recycled and cliche and there're some pretty cringe-worthy lines in there, but somehow, I can't turn away.
