The wheat, having been sown,
was harvested
threshed
dried
ground
bagged
shipped
stocked
bought
stored
and one day found itself
in unlikely combination
with the butter
the ice-cold water
the cross-purposed knife blades
formed into a solid mass
chilled
rolled
cut
shaped
filled
heated
transformed
into this unlikely thing
a fragile and ungainly envelope
for sweet hope.
So far from home
So far afield.
So like most promises.
