"What do you want for Christmas?"

When someone who means more than anything reasonable to me asked me this question, I kind of ducked it. Because the kinds of things I want, well - some of them maybe aren't the kinds of things easily purchased, or small enough to wrap.

I don't want anything for Christmas.

When I look at my life - at where it is, and where it's going, as opposed to the many ways it could have gone -

I may not have everything I want, but I have all that I need.

When I think about the people in my life - how much they've given to me, how often they've been there to hold me up or even kick me in the ass when necessary, I think, "You have more than you deserve there, bucko."

We rarely get everything that we want. But I know when I need it, I have arms around me, from every side, reminding me of everything that I have.
