The [expletive deleted] companty that bought Grisoft is discontinuing the free AVG Anti-Virus software as of January. This has been the best AV software I've used yet; the crap I've paid for before always created more problems than it was worth.

Any recommendations on a replacement? Free is always preferred, especially at present - I'm going to be living off about $500 until mid-January...

[EDIT: _prisoner_ just pointed out that Grisoft will be continuing their free edition as the upgrade to ver. 7.5, but - I've completely lost faith in this company now - I wish I'd screencapped the pop-up that very specifically stated that is was DISCONTINUING the free edition, and did NOT mention the upgraded continuation. Any company that will use this kind of underhanded marketing isn't one I would buy stuff from, even if I had the cash - and it certainly doesn't inspire my confidence in their product, even if it continues to be free. flemco - looking forward to hearing your input, thankyewverramuch, sir.

Um, AVG 7.5 will still have a free version just like the regular old AVG 7.1. Just an upgrade. Their WORDING on this coulda been a little bit better, but all you gotta do is upgrade to the free version of 7.5.

WOW - okay, color me unimpressed with this kind of marketing strategy - one where they send me a pop-up that says they're DISCONTINUING the free edition, with NO mention of the updated free edition, and trying to hard-sell me - I wish I'd screencapped the pop-up, because it was a work of marketing bullshit art, lemme tell you.

In fact, color me PISSED. Okay, granted I'm a free user, so why should they give a shit, but CHRIST - if they were ever hoping to turn me into a paying customer, they have absolutely and completely lost that chance, forever, amen, cue angelic choirs. What DICKS. /rant
