Splash in a handful of Portishead, with just a teensy hint of female vox
Add a vigorous but not overwhelming percussion section
Stir in elements of jazz, electronica, ambient free-form and shoegazer
Garnish with a twist of Tangerine Dream and you have -

Um, something vaguely resembling Four Tet.

Too quirky to be ambient, too structured to be jazz, too likely to change directions without notice, so definately not trance -

Dunno.

But me likes.
